定了！中国天眼4月1日正式对全球科学界开放

被誉为“中国天眼”的500米口径球面射电望远镜（FAST）将于2021年4月1日正式对全球科学界开放。

The 500-meter aperture spherical radio telescope (FAST), also known as Chinas Tianyan or "Sky Eye," will open to the global scientific community and accept observation applications from scientists around the world starting from April 1.

据新华社报道，各国科学家可以通过在线方式向国家天文台提交观测申请。申请的项目将交由“中国天眼”科学委员会和时间分配委员会进行评审，并于8月1日起分配观测时间（observation time will be allocated from August 1）。

据“中国天眼”运行和发展中心常务副主任、总工程师姜鹏介绍，面向全球科学界开放的第一年，预计分配给国外科学家的观测时间约占10%。

Approximately 10 percent of the observation time will be allocated to the global astronomy community this year, said Jiang Peng, chief engineer and executive deputy director of the FAST Operation and Development Center.

据报道，位于中国贵州省平塘县的“中国天眼”是当今世界最大的单口径射电望远镜（single-dish radio telescope），其反射面（reflective surface area）相当于30个标准足球场那么大。“中国天眼”于2016年落成启用，并于2020年1月11日正式开放运行。

坍塌的美国“天眼”

2020年12月初，美国“天眼”300米口径阿雷西博望远镜坍塌后，“中国天眼”成为了全球唯一的“天眼”。
